No more "Mey-mey"

I am pleased to say that my son has gone this entire week {when I say this entire week, I mean the last 3 days....} without using his "mey-mey" (as he calls it). He still uses it but ONLY FOR SLEEPING! The first day was hard. Lots of tears in the car and walking around the house searching for it saying, "Mey-mey? Mey-mey? with his arms in the air and eye brows furrowed. The first time I took it out of his mouth after his nap and threw it into his bed, he lunged for it shouting "MEY-MEY!" and cried for a good while. The next day though, I got him out of his bed after his nap and said, "OK Conrad, put your mey-mey in your bed please." To my disbelief he popped that sucker out and tossed it into his crib. I was so surprised. I thought this process would be a lot harder than it has been. I think we should have done this a lot sooner. I realize now that I was the one who really couldn't let it go, not him. Just imagining the screaming in the car a week ago was terrifying to me and the constant whining for it. But it's been really good. I'm hanging in there.

Here is a video from Monday after his nap. Day 1 of only having it during sleeping. Please disregard my weird (annoying) screaming. It usually makes him laugh when I scare him...I was trying to distract him and be cute, but not so much.... I sound pretty scary in the video. Just warning you.

  4. I don't even want to TRY to imagine the day that my sons binky goes away. Its his crutch, constantly clipped to his shirt with a leash, always within reach. He cries for it when the dang thing is hanging off of him, instead of in his mouth. When he goes to reach for it and its not there... whoa boy.

You're doing great. You're much stronger than I am. I'll probably let my son suck on his until hes 40, because I just don't have the heart to take it away.

  5. Haha! That video is awesome-- ohhhh poor little guy!

At first I thought "poor Conrad" but by the end of this I was thinking "poor Chelsea" because you're working so hard to distract him but by the second scream he was waiting for you to pop up so that he could ask for Meh-meh. He's a smarty!

  6. My daughter was the same way! We've been using it just at night for a while now and she knows that if she wants out of her crib the Binky stays there! It only took her a few times to get it and occasionally she has an "off day" and throws a fit because she wants it. It's all about sticking to your guns! No giving in! :)

  7. Good screaming. And way to go Conrad and Mom for giving it up so quickly. I've heard that can be a nightmare.

  8. Those screams were seriously scary!

I recently posted a video on my blog (two posts ago I think?) my friend made of his daughter giving up her paci. It is hysterical. You should check it out for a good laugh (and cry. poor girl). As Mama to a thumb sucker I'm not sure what I'm going to do...

  9. I thought it was so funny to see that he calls his binkie "mey mey" because kaylie never took to one and now that little hunter uses a binkie she just started calling it a mey mey and i had no idea where she got it from! She gets very concerned when her little brother doesn't have his mey mey!
